Young and Getting It (Interview with the Co-founders of Exsphere Consulting)

In the last few years, Nigeria has witnessed the emergence of young entrepreneurs and startup companies, which has helped in reducing the rate of unemployment in the country. Let us meet the co-founders of a startup consulting firm, Exsphere, a consulting firm that deals with Designing Innovative Products/services for Insurance Companies and SME’s.
The trio met while studying at The University of Lagos, Akoka, after realizing a loophole that need to be tapped in the insurance industry, they decided to start up Exsphere… As its been said ” In every challenge, there’s an opportunity”.
In an interview with Patrick Ayodeleof Kontact Edge Media, the young co-founders explained how they started, what their objectives are and how they intend to impact the Insurance industry…
Patrick Ayodele: Tell us about yourself and your business.
Adefolarin: My name is Adefolarin Abdul, I believe there should be greatness in everything we do. I am a graduate of University of Lagos where I developed passion for financial management, investment banking and insurance. Exsphere is a consultancy firm that provides long lasting solutions to business in the financial industry and we also provide companies with product ideas.
Oluwaseyi: I am Adeyeye Oluwaseyi Adeniyi by name. I have a jovial personality coupled with moments of extreme serious attitude towards Projects. Over the years, I discovered how creative and innovative I am; I love to do things differently using my designed processes to get them done. I strongly believe my love for innovation and creativity led to the role i played in establishing Exsphere consulting firm that deals with Designing Innovative Products/services for Insurance Companies and SME’s.
Busayo: My name is Asaolu Busayo, creating value is one of the thing i love doing. My love for creating value makes me want to make impact in the financial industry through innovation. I believe my passion for creativity and innovation led to the role in forming EXSPHERE CONSULT NG. A consulting firm that deals with innovative product development, marketing strategies for insurance companies and SMEs.
Patrick Ayodele: As a trio, how did you come about starting up EXPHPERE?
Busayo: It was on a Tuesday evening when I and Seyi were discussing about the problem faced by Nigeria insurance industry due to the lack of innovative products that suit the public. From our discussion, we realized that the student market niche is an untapped area in the insurance industry which led to us brainstorming and we were able to design a suitable insurance products for NIGERIA students. We intend on doing the presentation to NIA until we shared the intention with Folarin who further elaborate the idea.
Oluwaseyi: At first we never intended to set up a consulting firm, the need to seize the opportunity started when I and Busayo were discussing about the current plight of the Nigeria Insurance Industry; how insurance products are not being percieved as creating value to the Nigerian society due to the level of education, Religious belief and Attitude of the people. In the midst of our discussion; we were able to brainstorm and design a suitable Insurance products for Students. We were so sure it will be accepted by students because we understand what students need generally. Our thoughts were to present the product idea to Nigeria Insurers Association until we shared our intentions with Folarin.
Adefolarin: They told me about it and I applied my analytical skills and we brainstorm over again to ensure profitability and then we commercialized the product. After presenting the product ideas we decided to come together asExsphere Consult NG.
Patrick Ayodele: What drives you?
The passion to help our clients remain relevant in their industry through Innovative Products and services; and marketing strategies which fosters the competitive advantage of our clients; make our clients realize massive level of profitability. Also, the need to provide individuals or group of individuals with peculiar insurance needs and provide them with adequate and sufficient insurance cover which are ordinarily not available in standard insurance policies….

Patrick Ayodele: What’s the hardest thing working as an entrepreneur?
The number one challenge we are facing currently is doubts in the mind of potential clients due to the fact that we haven’t built enough profile; we submit a lot of Proposals and get few responses. Though, this is normal in the business world for a young consulting firm; with time we are sure the Table will turn around…
Patrick Ayodele: What threw you to limelight? (In terms of opportunity)
We were able to identify Loopholes with regards to the subject of Innovation amongst Insurance Companies as an opportunity to create and get value; and we brainstormed to provide solutions. We believe this has given us the platforms to meet with CEO’s and Senior Managers.
Patrick Ayodele: What has been your greatest challenge so far?
Funds!!!
Basically most people don’t want to invest in startups as they are not sure of their success in the nearest future. So we focus on building up our internal processes rather than waiting for investors. We believe when we do things differently in an exceptional way, we would eventually attract top class investors whom would have a shared vision with us.
Patrick Ayodele: Would you say you’re spontaneous or calculated in decision making as a team?
In most cases we ensure that our decision is a calculated decision through brainstorming but occasionally we do make spontaneous decision due to urgency
Patrick Ayodele: What’s your main objective in business?
The main Objective is to add and create more value in the Industry via our top-notch consulting services to our clients.
Patrick Ayodele: Does your business reflect your personality?
Yes, a close observation will let anyone who cares, to identify these features in us and Exsphere as an organisation: Curiosity, Decisiveness and Creativity
