4G to overtake GSM technology in 2018 – Ericsson

Mobile telecom giant, Ericsson, says the LTE (4G) will overtake GSM as the largest access technology by number of subscriptions in 2018.

According to its latest edition of Ericsson Mobility Report, dominant access technology will be LTE (also known as 4G) in 2018, making it the fastest-growing mobile technology in history.

“The speed with which this technology has been rolled out and adopted is unprecedented. It has taken only five years for LTE to cover 2.5 billion people, compared to eight years for WCDMA/HSPA, or 3G. In the first quarter of this year (2017) alone, 250 million new LTE subscriptions were added,” the report stated.

It also shows the highest year-on-year mobile data growth globally since 2013, led by massive growth in India, and highlights the underlying need for mobile data. Nigeria is among the top five countries with over 3 million mobile subscriptions net additions in Q1 2017.

Niklas Heuveldop, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Technology and Emerging Business, Ericsson, says: “Based on measurements made in hundreds of mobile networks, the Ericsson Mobility Report data truly illustrates the tremendous underlying growth in the industry. 4G subscriptions are increasing faster than ever, Voice over LTE uptake is accelerating and traffic growth has reached levels we have not seen since 2013.

“I am particularly excited to see the industry’s major steps to progress network evolution, including the approval of the Non-Standalone 5G New Radio (NR) that will enable early 5G deployments. According to our forecast, we anticipate that this will lead to more than half a billion 5G subscriptions and a population coverage of 15 percent by 2022,” he noted.

Ericsson also foresees 2.6 billion new mobile broadband subscribers will be added through 2022 – averaging to more than one million each day. “By the end of 2022, total smartphone mobile data traffic will have increased 9X, reaching 66ExaBytes per month,” the report added.

Similarly, it says while LTE uptake is driven by demand for improved user experience and faster networks, 5G deployment will also be driven by the need for enhanced mobile broadband capabilities as well as industry solutions for efficiency and automation.

“5G will be the one network to support a diversity of use cases. More than half a billion 5G subscriptions are expected to be activated by 2022, not including IoT connections,” it stated.

We will accept Osinbajo's plea to drop Biafra agitation if Nigerian government can resurrect the six million Biafrans killed during the Nigerian Biafra war ' - Group

The Biafra National Guard, BNG, Tuesday dismissed as “belated and too late for us to listen to” the alleged call by Acting President Yemi Oninbajo, for the Biafra agitators particularly, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnandi Kanu to drop Biafra agitation and join hand with the present administration in the country in rebuilding Nigeria.

BGN also faulted the alleged statement credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo that then Nigerian Military government did not plan to wipe out the entire Biafrans in the 1967 to 1970 Nigeria Biafra Civil war, but rather, it was a brotherly war to retain the Biafrans in Nigeria.

BGN in a statement by its leader Mr. Innocent Orji, made available to NE through its Public Relations Officer, Mazi Okoro Ruben, said “we will accept Obasanjo’s apology and Osinbajo’s appeal on condition that they resurrect all Biafran children starved to death, and all our parents, our over six million Biafran civilians, soldiers and heroes, killed during the Nigerian Biafra war and those killed in recent agitations and still being kill up to date.”

“We totally and vehemently reject all apologies and calls for us to drop Biafra agitation, it is too late for us to listen to you all making the calls, unless you will miraculously resurrect all our 6 million Biafran civilians, especially our children whom you starved to death and all our parents, including gallant Biafran soldiers and heroes killed and still being killed till date by Nigerian government.

“We wonder how the Federal Government of Nigeria will convince us that they are sincerely regretting the civil war, need Igbo in Nigeria after the genocidal war against Biafrans from 1967 to 1970, while they are still incarcerating our 22 Biafra freedom agitators at Onitsha, and Awka prisons since over ten years now and are still waging court war against IPOB leader Mazi Kanu and other IPOB members held at Kuje prisons Abuja.

“You better allow us to separate and go our ways peacefully; through conducting referendum to be supervised by the United Nations, so that Nigeria will have peace, that is the only panacea to all these self determination agitation going on now in Nigeria.” BGN and however thanked all citizens and the Indigenes People of Biafra, all tribes of Ijaw, Itshekiris, Isokos, Efiks Ibibos, Urhobos, Ogonis, Ogojas, Calabaris, Izons, Igedes, Igalas, Kiamas and Igbos, in the former Eastern Nigeria, for observing the Sit-at-home order by the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“You all made us the Biafra agitators proud by your total compliance worldwide on May 30th2017 Sit-at-home call by the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and if truth is to be told, the Sit-at-home is sufficient to us as our own last Biafra referendum result, what we need is sovereign state of Biafra.”

He lashed out on those who are calling for the re-arrest of Mr. Kanu describing them as “mischievous funny and jokers of the years” warning that any more action against Kanu and other Biafra agitators will lead to pathetic and regrettable situations for Nigeria and its leaders. The Billionaire-Kidnapper, Chukwudi Onuamadike aka Evans, was once arrested in Lagos state . A Senior police officer who arrested the kingpin and his gang in 2006, reveals that a rift borne out of greed led to Evans’ arrest in Imo . According to the officer, Evans and his gang fell out as they were sharing the loot from a robbery attack A senior police officer whose name has been concealed to protect him from prosecution, has said that Evans was arrested in Imo state, but regained freedom afterwards. He told newsmen that Evans was arrested in 2006, after his gang of robbers attacked a commercial bank in Lagos. According to the source which spoke to The Punch, the robbers went somewhere around the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, to share the loot.

While sharing the loot, the robbers had a disagreement and shot one another. Seven members of the gang died instantly. The then Divisional Police Officer of Iponri Police Station, Yahaya Bello, now a deputy commissioner of police, was in the know of the incident, the sources claimed. According to the Senior officer, it was confirmed that one of the members of the gang arrested then was Chukwudi Onuamadike, popularly known as Evans. “If you look at his chest, I cannot remember whether it is the right or left side, there is a scar. It was as a result of the gunshot from his gang members that day.

He bled and there was no way he could run away before the police came. The case was transferred to the Lagos State Anti-Robbery Squad. We investigated and discovered that they were armed robbers. Evans led the team. We also went to Mbidi Police Station, Imo state, to carry out an investigation on them. We were able to arrest two other members of the gang. We then had five of them in police custody” the source informed. A source informs that Evans was once arrested in Lagos state but was released by the Imo state police command. Reacting to prosecution of “Evans the robber”, the source said a certain policewoman at the Band Section of the Police College, Lagos, made attempts to have the criminal released. The lady known as Tina, a superintendent of police, insisted that “we should drop the case and that Onuamadike (Evans) was her brother. But when she was unable to achieve her aim, she travelled to Imo state.” Not long after, police in Lagos state, got a message from the Imo state police command saying that they had been searching for Evans and asked for the robber’s case to be transferred. The source reports that the Imo state command said they would continue from where the investigations had stopped in Lagos.

“Since that time, we did not hear anything. We heard he was later released there,” said the source. The senior police officer further stressed that Evans was not the only one released, other members were most likely set free. “The request was that we should transfer the case to them. We sent him and two members of his gang to the command. There is a hotel in Okota area where they used to meet to share their loot. The owner of the hotel was their friend. There was a time they robbed three banks in Alaba International Market in 2005. They also looted shops there. One of the owners of the shop complained to the police and we carried out an investigation. We discovered that some of the items stolen in the man’s shop were digital cameras. We traced the cameras to the hotel and into the office of the hotel owner. It was then that ‘big men’ started calling from everywhere that we should drop the charges against them. The owner of the hotel was later killed by the robbers, following a disagreement. His body was dumped by the roadside in one of the states in the East sometime ago”.

Advising the police on how to go about Evans’ case, the source said a proper investigation must be carried out. The senior officer noted that Evans links in South Africa, Ghana, and other African countries. In a similar vein, a soldier in the Nigerian army, lance corporal Victor Chukwunonso, has allegedly been arrested by the police for being a gang member of the notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans. Chukunonso, with Army No: 09/NA/64/6317 is attached to the Nigeria Army Band Corps, Abatti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos. Officials in Russia Honor Jehovah’s Witnesses, Including Jailed Danish Citizen, for Outstanding Community Service

NEW YORK—On June 2, 2017, officials in the Russian city of Oryol gave special recognition to the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, expressing gratitude for their participation in the city’s annual cleanup efforts on April 22, 2017. There were 70 Witnesses who volunteered to spend the day removing trash from the streets of Oryol and from the Orlik River that winds through the city. As a token of their appreciation, city officials presented the Witnesses with a small gift and a handwritten note stating, in part: “In gratitude for a good deed for the community and for the environment.”
However, one month after the cleanup, and one week before being formally thanked by city officials, one of the Witness volunteers, Dennis Christensen (pictured in above inset), was arrested for so-called extremist activity while attending a peaceful religious meeting on May 25. Russian authorities have been using the claim of extremist activity to target Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout the country.
“It is no surprise to those who know Jehovah’s Witnesses that Dennis, and the other members of the congregation, would voluntarily participate in the cleanup of their city. They have been performing this service for many years, continuing even after their legal entity was liquidated in 2016,” states David A. Semonian, a spokesman at the Witnesses’ world headquarters. “Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oryol and in other cities around the world are known for being model citizens. That is why it is ironic that Dennis, a diligent, law-abiding Christian, would be treated like a criminal shortly after making a positive contribution to his community that was recognized as honorable by officials in Oryol. We believe that Dennis should be released immediately and be allowed to continue his peaceful worship and positive community service in association with his fellow worshippers.”
The arrest of Mr. Christensen took place almost a year after the local legal entity used by the Witnesses in Oryol was liquidated on June 14, 2016. The charges leveled against Mr. Christensen also came on the heels of the April 20, 2017,
decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation to liquidate the Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia, near St. Petersburg. Mr. Christensen is still being held in pretrial detention by authorities in Oryol.

FG urged to build central database to track criminals

Following the high rate of crimes and criminality across the country, an expert in security has called on the Federal Government to build a central database of its citizens to facilitate the tracking and arrest of criminals.

Some criminal cases in the country include, armed robberies, kidnappings, Boko Haram, Cattle Herdsmen, Cattle rustlers, child trafficking, ritual murder and rape.

A security consultant, Mr Michael Sam-Wobo lend therefore called on the Federal Government to build a central database of its citizens so as to facilitate the tracking and arrest of criminals. Sam-Wobo, who spoke to the press in Lagos, said that lack of database made it chalenging for security agencies to track criminals.

Sam-Wobo , who works with Horizontal Resources Nig. Ltd., said “Nigeria does not have a central database, the Federal Road Safety Corps has data of drivers, banks have data of account holders, and communication companies have data of those who use their networks.”

He noted that a central database would make it easy to link each citizen to his actions, thus making it easy to track criminals.

He commended the police for the recent arrest of a suspected kidnapping kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike (a.k.a Evans) who was arrested with SIM cards he used to perpetrate crime.

A central database, he said would disclose the number of telephone lines an individual is using, adding that “The arrest of this kidnap, Evans, is a very welcome development.”

“The fact that the police is rising up to their responsibilities, especially with the procurement of sophisticated equipment, aided the arrest of the suspected kidnapper,’’ he added.

He tasked government and private organisations to increase security awareness campaign saying that it will reduce kidnapping and make students in secondary and primary schools not to divulge family information to strangers.

Pastor caught making out with member’s wife, kills the man for catching them

Police are currently hunting for a man in Nyatike, Migori County after he allegedly killed another man who confronted him for having an affair with his wife. According to ZINO T online

It was learnt that Tobias Oyoo confronted his pastor, Fred Ochieng’, after being told that his wife was cheating with him.

The pastor invited the couple, who are members of his Roho Msalaba Church, for a talk in his office where they aired the issue out and made the wife agree to move back to their matrimonial home.

He rode a motorcycle from Sori town all the way to Osiri, a journey of about 30kms, to confront them. “He parked his motorcycle by the road and walked into the thicket where he found his wife and the pastor making out. A confrontation ensued,” RadioJambo reports.

The woman ran away leaving the two men fighting and according to Nyatike OCPD, Dishon Chebaka, the body of Oyoo was later found after villagers and police did an intense search.

“When the deep mine was inspected the man was found dead. He was pushed in and landed head first on sharp rocks,” he said.

Hoodlums kill community bank guard in Ughelli

Unidentified hoodlums in the early hours of Monday invaded a community bank at Ughelli, Delta State, killing a security guard on duty and carting away a computer and other items from the bank.

The remains of the victim, Andrew Okurude, 78, was said to have been recovered close to a plaza gate where the bank is situated.

The incident is coming just as another gang of hoodlums, on Monday evening, shot dead a male guest lodging at a hotel located near Aroh road junction along the East-West road.

Both attacks occurred despite series of security check points by combined teams of police and operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN at various parts of Ughelli who have been embarking on stop and search operations in the town.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Chief Joe Arausi, said: “I am not in Delta State as at the moment and don’t have full details of the incident but the Managing Director, called me on Monday that a security guard at the bank was killed.”

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, explained that the victim had been reported missing by members of his family who in an earlier report, stated that he left his house on June 22 and has since not returned.

According to the police boss: “Based on the report, his (victim) place of work at the bank was visited where he was found dead by the gate of the plaza.

“It is assumed that the victim died four days ago as at the time of the visit, his corpse which has been deposited at the Central hospital mortuary, Ughelli for autopsy, had already started decomposing.

“While investigation was ongoing to ascertain the course of death, the manager of the bank came to the station and reported that hoodlums entered their office and made away with their computer and that no money was taken.”

Lazio and Valencia have joined the race for Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic, who has just finished a season-long loan at AC Milan.

Pasalic took time to get going at the San Siro last season and only made his first Serie A appearance in the Rossoneri's eleventh league game of the campaign.

However, he soon hit his stride and by the end of the season was established as a key man at AC Milan.

The Rossoneri want to keep the 22-year-old into next term and look to be in pole position to do so, with Chelsea likely to be happy for him to benefit from continued first team football.

AC Milan do not have things all their own way though as, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Lazio and Valencia have joined the race.

The pair were both impressed with Pasalic's assured displays in midfield for the Rossoneri last term and want to add him to the ranks.

As the Croatian is out of contract at Chelsea next summer, the Blues may want him to pen a fresh deal before another loan is sanctioned.

Alternatively, Chelsea could look to cash in.
